On 2nd-3rd April 2016, Siblings Together in partnership with The Poetry Society will be holding a pop-up poetry workshop weekend in the city of London.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any young people whoare interested in pursuing a writing career, undertaking a writing or English university or college course, or any young people who just want to improve or even discover their creative writing skills.
This project is open to all 16-24 years olds either in care or who have recently left the care system and are interested in fiction, poetry and spoken word.
Young writers will spend a two days working with resident poet Joelle Taylor who will run workshops to help young people to harness their creative energy and generally improve their writing skills. At the end of the weekend, we can take copies of the young people’s work and put it all together into an anthology to for the attendees to distribute and be proud of. We currently have a selection of poems from 2014’s Young Writers Week and we have a printed 2015 anthology available.
It will also be a good opportunity for young people to make new friends and learn new skills, not just in writing skills but in team building and forming new relationships. This will be a creative yet safe space, where behaviour and communication between everyone is respectful and encouraging.
